A fun side trip on the Fairy Tale Road is a stop in the spa town of Bad Wildungen. Germany is well known for its spa destinations, and Bad Wildungen is one of the more famous of these. “Bad” is the word for bath in German, and Maritim Badehotel is one of the town’s most sought-after hotels.
Maritim Badehotel Bad Wildungen is a grand historic hotel with plenty of luxurious modern amenities. It’s part of the Maritim hotel chain, with many hotels throughout Germany. The rooms have been recently updated and the bathrooms are modern. Most rooms contain two singe beds, but rollaway beds can be added to sleep up to three in a room. Connecting rooms can accommodate larger families.
This massive resort overlooks exquisite manicured gardens, as well as a forest area for hiking. There’s also a large, luxurious indoor pool, with plenty of chaise lounges surrounding it; there are also lots of chairs on the lawn.
The hotel has a large restaurant that serves bountiful buffets, and there’s a lounge with nightly live music and dancing. Keep in mind, Germany’s spa culture is aging. and this hotel caters to a mostly older, retired crowd. You’ll likely see some children enjoying the pool and grounds though.

We found this hotel (and the surrounding town) charming. It felt a little like a turn of the 20th century grand hotel. It was clean, the staff was nice, the shower pressure was fantastic. Breakfast was a little overpriced for what it was, but would overall recommend.
