Overview
by Wendy Irvine
If you have an extended family who vacations together, you dwell among the most fortunate. Sure, tussles over hitting the antique shops versus a day at the water park will happen. And hearing Dad’s golf story for the millionth time gets old. However, these vacation moments will leave the best memories. But how do you find a stay that makes everyone happy, especially at the beach?
At Rehoboth Beach, the answer is clear: The Bellmoor Inn & Spa. Located an easy two blocks from the heart of Rehoboth Avenue, which is lined in fun shops and great dining, is an elegant inn, the kind you don’t expect to find in a casual beach town like Rehoboth. One step into the Bellmoor’s lobby with its gleaming cherry wood floors and elegant bird decor sprinkled throughout, and you just don’t think “beach.” Even combining “kids” and “inn” in the same sentence gives pause. But the multi-generational family, the Moore’s, who own the Bellmoor Inn & Spa, balance everything to keep each age well-rested, well-fed and just plain charmed.
For starters, the Moore family was wise enough to put in two pools. The larger, for families, sits immediately next to the enclosed hot tub. The smaller pool, sitting just off the garden patio, is for adults only. They added a late afternoon tea paired with lemonade and cookies, and for mornings, a beautiful breakfast buffet. All are to be leisurely enjoyed in either the sunroom or garden patio.
The Moore’s created a library on the first floor and decked it in light summer reading like Tom Clancy novels. They also put out magazines and newspapers, and somehow managed to bring in a magical thing called silence. The Moore’s set aside the room next to the library to be the board game room and added old fashioned games like LIFE, checkers and chess. They specifically didn’t want to include a Wii or an Xbox.
The spacious patio garden is lush with old trees, Adirondack chairs and tables, fountains and koi in one of the small ponds.
Every adult seeking even deeper relaxation hour will brighten at the Bellmoor spa’s selection of treatments that include high-end manicures and pedicures, a variety of massages and waxing.
The Bellmoor boasts a total of 78 rooms and offers a variety of room styles ranging from a basic unit with two queen-sized beds to luxury suites with options like a fireplace and luxury tub with jets. The Gardener’s Cottage even has a kitchen.

We have stayed at The Bellmoor a few times and have always loved it! The rooms are well-decorated and so comfortable. The housekeeping staff does a wonderful job making sure guests have whatever is needed. A sumptuous breakfast is part of the room rate. It is served buffet-style, but also includes an egg station where you can have your eggs cooked to order. A coffee bar is available 24/7 and cookies and cold drinks are offered from 3-4:00. A fitness room and hot tub are for guest use, and although we didn’t take advantage of them, 2 outdoor pools and a spa are on the premises. There is nothing negative to say about The Bellmoor. It is truly a perfect place to enjoy Rehoboth!

Will definitely return in the future. The made to order breakfast was great. Our guest suite was spacious and beautiful and included a wet bar. The hot tub was great and the atmosphere of the entire hotel was very nice.
Family Activities
Outdoor Pools
The Bellmoor's outdoor pool is a moderate size and sits on the second floor directly next to the indoor hot tub. The pool has beautiful chaise lounges and umbrellas for parents not wanting quite so much Vitamin D, and a first level pool just off the garden patio is for adults only. The hot tub is small so plan to nab it when nobody else is around. Comfy chaise lounge chairs wreath both pools and towels are provided at all three spots.
Beach
The sand and Atlantic Ocean are located just two short blocks from the inn.
Family Dining
Afternoon Tea at the Bellmoor Inn
It's a custom for elegant inns to put out delicate cookies, teas (cold in summer; hot in winter) and lemonade for guests and the Bellmoor doesn't disappoint. The tables in the sunroom are usually lined with grandparents, adult kids and grand kids enjoying cookies and tea, chatting and sharing funny beach stories.
Breakfast at Bellmoor Inn
The Bellmoor Inn spreads out a beautiful breakfast buffet layered with stainless steel warming trays of scrambled eggs, sausage and French toast, fresh strawberries and cantaloupe, hot quiche, five different flavors of coffee, several kinds of juice and sticky buns to name just a few of the offerings. Eating breakfast on the lush outdoor patio with the fountains tinkling is heaven.
Planning & Tips
All About the Extras
Especially important to know is that the Moore's heartily encourage guests to get the most out of their day of vacation. Check out of your room at 11 a.m, but let your car hang out in the lot while you play at the beach or pool. Afterward, clean up at the Bellmoor's special room just off the garden patio that includes a bathroom and shower.
Laundry
The Bellmoor Inn offers a complimentary washer and dryer on its second floor.
Parking
Parking is completely free at the Bellmoor.
Wi-Fi
Complimentary Wi-Fi access is available throughout the inn.
The Art of Smart Timing
Rehoboth Beach is a summer destination and is at its busiest from Memorial Day to Labor Day. But fall and spring are also great times to visit when there are less crowds.
Getting There
Delaware doesn't have a commercial airport, so plan to use the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), which is about two hours from the Bellmoor Inn.
Getting Around
For transportation from the Inn around Rehoboth, you just need feet -- the Inn is incredibly close to everything that matters: Restaurants, shops, the beach and even the Rehoboth Library is just a block away. To go further afield, of course, you'll need your car or you might want to try the Jolly Trolly that makes many stops between Rehoboth and Dewey beaches. The Jolly Trolley, a shuttle between Rehoboth and Dewey, passes right by the Bellmoor Inn. For a fee, the Jolly Trolley will pick you up and deposit you in the center of both beach communities, but offers over a dozen stops daily from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. Round trip tickets are available.
For Mom and Dad

The Bellmoor's spa offers a large selection of massages including hot stone, Swedish, sports and deep tissue and reflexology massages. Body treatments include a chocolate and raspberry sugar scrub and an anti-aging treatment called the Seatone Firming Treatment. A variety of facials include a pumpkin enzyme peel, a Gentleman's Facial and a signature back facial.
