This intimate inn and suites in the sleepy Jersey Shore community of Spring Lake is set in an historic inn. Thirty-seven guest rooms and one-bedroom suites have been recently updated with an elegant, neutral decor. No rooms are alike in the hotel, with rooms ranging from two doubles or two queens for families, or queen and king options for smaller families. Suites feature a bedroom with a king bed with adjoining living room with queen sleeper sofa. Suites come equipped with microwave and DVD player. If you can, reserve one of the two guest rooms that feature fully equipped kitchens, one of which features two queen beds and may be best suited for families. A minimum five-night stay is required for these rooms, which also feature private porches.

The Inn is very old, but not old enough to be historic, although they do try to give you the impression of a quaint country inn. After viewing the photos online the inn appeared to be a good place to book in the area. The room itself was large with a soiled sofa and a scent of mold and a wood burning fireplace that the weather was too hot to use. At the end of the bed was a large cabinet with a small sink which I want to say was a wet bar. Around the fire place and wet bar was what appeared to be either marble or granite floor tiles that had sharp edges which I constantly bumped into since they were only a couple inches within each other. The bathroom was almost entirely tiled in marble with a huge soaking tub (NO Jacuzzi Jets) that had a wide frame that you needed to hold onto the towel rack and safety rail or you would slip trying to enter it while trying to negate over the width of the tub. The toilet was so small and low to the floor it made it hard to maneuver (Almost the size a child would use).
There are only a few parking spaces at best and there is absolutely NO street parking allowed. You are advised that if there are NO spaces left you have to walk the length of a city block up the street to the train station and use their lot, which made me very uncomfortable security wise. Most of the people that stay here are elderly and eat "Early Bird Specials" and return by 6pm (Make sure you are back before than or you will have to park at the train station) using up the small amount of spaces that are so close together you can't even open your car door. Let me get into the complimentary breakfast...there is a sign for you to sign in explaining that there is a $5.99 charge. The items offered were stale as if they were bought in the local grocery store once a week and were frozen and thawed out the night before to be served the next morning. It consisted of mini muffins/mini rolls/mini danish/dry cereal/two different kinds of juice/apples/bananas and coffee (I would have liked to see yogurt but none were offered). I would like to mention that out of the 4 days we stayed we were only able to attend the Continental breakfast once due to them running out of food and places to sit and when I inquired as to what we should do since we did pay for the $5.99 offering and they just shook their heads and walked away so I can only assume that this happens all the time and the staff are tired of answering this question and I paid for 3 breakfasts that I was not able to attend due to their miscalculation.
I wondered why anyone would ever do a return visit to this place as this first visit was very disappointing to me. The website makes this place look very inviting but in reality it is very limited in services. Heck they even charge you $15 to rent their old bikes and wood for your fireplace. The outside furniture is caked with green mold? The one thing that really bothered me is that I am an early riser and I need my coffee...unfortunately they only serve coffee at 9am when they open for breakfast and there is a small store up the street but they don't open either until 9am. I would suggest that they should have a small one cup coffee machine in the room for those that wake up 6/7am and have to wait several hours for a cup of coffee in their over crowded breakfast area that runs out of coffee and food. I would like to add we did book one of their high end Pallor Suites so these issues are unforgivable. Sorry I can not recommend this Inn.

We just finished another outstanding stay at the Chateau. This is our 5th time staying there and NEVER have we been disappointed. The owner Scott is down to earth and continues to invest in this well located property near the beach and the charming downtown . April the general manager is warm, friendly and makes you feel like you are her only guest. This Inn has a nice variety of rooms that cater to many different needs. The inn is very clean, the afternoon cookies and beverages are a nice touch as well. Breakfast has a great variety of tempting items. If you are looking for a special place that is NOT your “ typical “ Jersey Shore “ inn, then this is your place .We plan in returning again and again!!
