Set in the rolling hills of the Hudson Valley, 50 miles from New York City, The Thayer Hotel at West Point is surrounded by natural beauty and outdoor adventures. The hotel is the only of its kind on the campus of a military installation, offering a unique experience in connection with America’s history. Visitors often tour the famous United States Military Academy at West Point. Recently renovated rooms evoke an Old World charm with modern amenities, featuring plush beds, oversized bathrooms, coffee makers and cable television. Kids can watch in-room movies or video games, while parents enjoy complimentary wireless Internet. Refrigerators and cribs are provided upon request; just ask for them when making a reservation. Families can also stay in two-room suites that offer additional space, kitchenettes, living rooms and dining areas. Select suites come with luxury amenities like terry cloth robes. History buffs may want to stay in the exact same suite as former president Dwight D. Eisenhower; you can even sit at his writing desk!
The newly remodeled MacArthur’s Riverview Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel. The elegant dining room is fancy, but also very accommodating for families. The expansive Zulu Time Rooftop Lounge displays the only rooftop lounge overlooking the Hudson River between Manhattan and Albany. It’s a nice place to relax and gaze out over the beautiful river views. The Thayer Hotel also provides room service.

This hotel could be SO great - beautiful location, amazing views... The lobby furniture is threadbare and the bathrooms and hotel furniture are from the 60's. For the cost of these rooms, they should be nicer.

I had been looking at this hotel for a stay near Garrison, N.Y., but was not sure I wanted to pay the price. I got an email from TripAdvisor offering a very nice deal, total for the queen bed room was about $120, including everything. I love historic hotels so that was a feature. The views are very important to me and that was the best thing about the room. I asked for a river view room on a high floor and got a fantastic view from a fourth floor room. The room was very nice and roomy, huge bathroom. I liked that you could actually open the windows to get some breeze.
Keurig coffee in room, complimentary coffee from coffee shop in the lobby. The website warns you about noise from the Zulu Lounge, but it was closed when we were there. It also warns about the train noise, but we only heard it when we had the windows open.
