Located directly across the street from the American Museum of Natural History, The Excelsior enjoys a fantastic spot in the Upper West Side of Manhattan near Central Park. Lavish rooms feature posh bedding and furnishings that exude an updated old-world charm. Suites are also available, offering a separate bedroom, parlor and living area. Internet access is available for a surcharge. A complimentary newspaper is delivered to your door daily. Downstairs a fitness center houses many treadmills, elliptical machines and free weights.
Guests can purchase a buffet breakfast each morning in library room. An onsite restaurant has a classy ambience that is also a welcoming atmosphere for families. For a special treat, dine at Isabella’s across the street from the hotel. It serves delicious dishes and has a kids’ menu with a variety of tasty options. Make sure to make reservations, as it is a popular restaurant. To get around the city, the 81st Street and the 79th Street/Broadway subway stops are a short walk from Excelsior.
Like most hotels in New York, this one is a bit pricey; however, the hotel usually runs specials on their website.

Stayed here twice. First was to join tour group - room was quite dark and dingy. Bathroom very small. Second was on my own two weeks later. Room was spacious and had outlook over to park. Bathroom was a little larger. No coffee/tea or fridge in rooms, although there is coffee/tea supplied in the mornings in reception. This is an older style décor hotel. The front desk were very helpful. Metro is at end of street. Plenty of eateries around.

This hotel is an excellent location so close to Central Park and the natural history museum.
Sadly although the rooms are clean they are dated and lacking in facilities - coffee is served downstairs in lobby no fridge/microwave in room like so many US hotel bathroom tiny and very old fashioned.
Good air con but so so noisy take ear plugs to sleep.
Front desk staff were helpful and sorted out corkscrew and taxi to airport
No bar as advertised was a real disappointment
Breakfast was good but area not kept that clean and staff not particularly friendly
For £250 a night I would expect a lot more from this hotel
