Think you can’t take the kids to a B&B? Think again! This historic B&B—the first-ever resort in South Haven, Michigan—is totally kid-friendly and utterly charming. Located a half-block from North Beach and the harbor and a 10-minute walk from downtown South Haven, the hotel’s location is especially convenient for families.
Families can stay in suites, a cottage or apartment, or book adjoining rooms. Room rates include a gourmet continental breakfast each morning (think fresh pastries and fruit), and free Wi-Fi is provided.
The Last Resort B&B is open May through October.

There are three aspects to this review:
(1) Location -- One of the best locations possible in a lovely part of town, located about 200 feet from the main harbor and marina, within easy walking distance of North Beach, the harbor walking path, and downtown South Haven.
(2) Innkeeper -- Mary Hammer, who has been the Innkeeper for almost 40 years, is one of the most interesting people you will ever meet. She is very friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable of the area. She is also a renowned artist and musician, plus well-traveled. She is "one-of-a-kind" in a very positive sense, and an excellent hostess.
(3) Facility -- The building is old and externally needs some care and attention, especially with respect to painting. The breakfast and lounge areas are very nice, but overall the interior could use a wee bit of refreshing. From a size perspective, the B&B is quite large, with 16 rooms including cottage and apartment. So it's in some ways like a small hotel.
In summary, we rate the Last Resort B&B somewhere between 3 and 4 stars based upon the three aspects just noted above.

I love the last resort. The location is great, Across from the beach and minutes to town. The place is a little corky but overall I always enjoy my stay. We stayed in #20 Indian room, 1st time staying in this room. But me and my husband were comfortable in the room. If you’re a large person the bed won’t be big enough for 2 in this room. But we were fine.
