In the 16th century, Europeans introduced donkeys and other livestock to Bonaire, and the descendants of the donkeys roam the island today. Donkey Sanctuary Bonaire was founded in 1993 for sick, wounded and orphaned donkeys.
Now you can tour through the sanctuary and its hundreds of donkeys by car, scooter, bike, or foot. Be sure to purchase a bag of carrots at the sanctuary to feed the donkeys. You’ll be very popular!
