Families will love this swamp/airboat tour (located about 30 minutes outside of Lafayette), where it’s very likely to see alligators up close, along with other wildlife as you speed across the marshy waters. Airboat Captains Tucker or Craig will point out all the things you need to witness and even call the alligators over if they have decided to be a bit shy. Large male alligators, smaller females and even baby alligators fill the swamp and have made friends with the Atchafalaya Basin Landing tour guides (safety is never an issue). The airboat zips loudly across the waters while maneuvering past Cypress trees during this 90-minute tour; it makes several stops to check out the wildlife. Your kids will talk about the alligators they saw on this tour for days!
It is definitely a must-do when visiting Lafayette. Ear plugs are provided and help to block out the boat noise. Make sure to bring a camera and maybe a jacket, as it is often cooler out on the water. Restrooms can be found next to the General Store.
