Dating back to the 10th century, Old Town Square was where the people of Prague gathered to shop daily. It was known as Old Market for quite some time, with hoses built around the square between the 12th and 13th centuries. The square was used to host public executions, and in 1621, 27 leaders who launched a rebellion against the Emperor were executed. Now 27 crosses mark the pavement to mark the sad event. Today, the square is lined with restaurants and seasonal events. In the winter, the square is transformed into a Winter Market with shops, food and an ice-skating rink.
