This overlook on West Rim Drive often offers southbound travelers their first and most spectacular views of the lake with a great location high above Wizard Island. You can take hikes along the edge with older children and take a ranger-led sunset hike up to Watchman Peak. If you have younger children at the overlook, have them search for two of the park’s most visible creatures: the Clark’s nutcrackers that feed in the pines and ground squirrels (or chipmunks) looking for handouts along the overlook’s wall. They may be cute and convincing, but stick to photos. It’s illegal to feed the wildlife.
