Overview

The Sou’wester Historic Lodge and Vintage Travel Trailer Resort describes itself as a “hodgepodge” of accommodation types. There are suites in the circa-1892 lodge with private kitchens and baths, four red-shingled 1950s-era beach cottages that can sleep up to four people, and more than 20 vintage travel trailers from the 1950s and ’60s that range in size and rustic-ness. The resort is located on three acres in Seaview, Washington, on the Long Beach Peninsula, and guests can borrow bikes for exploring the area or visit the on-site honor store to borrow books, records, games, and movies during their stay. It’s just a few blocks to the beach and an easy drive to an array of local restaurants, shops, parks, and museums.

I was surprised to be charged for two nights when I only booked one.

by Margaret L

I booked my one-night stay here 5 months in advance and received a confirmation email for my stay. The night before my stay, I received a phone call asking if I would be arriving that night or the next morning. Confused (as I had booked my stay for the next night only) I stated I would check in on the day of my reservation. When I arrived I was told that the cabin had actually been booked for two nights for a wedding I was attending and If I did not pay for both nights, then the bride and groom would have to pay for my room (which I did not book and did not use) the night before my reservation. The staff was very terse, offered no real explanation, and did not seem to care that I had a confirmation email for one night only. Their response was simply, "if you don't pay then the bride and groom will have to cover your reservation", which again, I had not made for two nights. I paid the full amount they required so that I could still stay for the time I had booked, but I will have to contest it with my bank if I want my money back.
Aside from the extra charge, I would like to point out that at no time was I informed that my reservation was for two days. If they had notified me of this at any time, it is possible that I would have come a day earlier and enjoyed myself. Unfortunately, I had no idea that I had an extra day reserved, that I had to pay for, and actually had to waste some time in Long Beach before I could check in.
I am very angry about the whole thing and feel as though I was swindled out of my money. My reservation was supposed to cost $130 and instead they charged me $270 (the night that I did not book was actually more expensive than the one I reserved).
That aside, the facilities were fine, pretty much as expected.

nostalgic feelings

My wife and I and our dog stayed in the Estrallita for a week in May. We were surprised at how much storage there was for us to put away all our clothes and supplies. The bed was comfy. The oven worked great. The little shower didn't offer much warmth and water pressure compared to the showers around the sauna, but it was nice to have our own sink and toilet.

Only critique of the Estrallita is that the curtains were nearly nonexistent - either absent or they were falling off the rod. Our other friends staying at the Sou'wester definitely knew which trailer we were staying in because you could see right inside. Wifi in our trailer was spotty at best, but very good in the main lodge.

Overall, the place is charming and nostalgic. Record players and VHS playing TVs. We looked at all the unique trailers and fell in love with each one. Art is very valued, and it felt like every guest was an artist of some sort. Very queer/friendly vibes. Great coffee, teas and groceries on site. The sauna area is a dream! Seaview is a great area along Long Beach. I'd go back.
