If you’re in the downtown/Old Market Omaha area with kids, a visit to the Gene Leahy Mall is a must! The Mall is actually a ten-acre park in the heart of downtown. There are water features, sculptures, gardens, and walking paths that connect to the larger Heartland of America Park. The real draw for families here are the two large, metal slides on the east end of the park. They’re a blast and totally free! You’ll often see people with paper bags or wax paper to help them speed down the slides. This area of the mall is located right across the street from the Omaha Visitor’s Center, making it a convenient stop.
