Just outside of Heidelberg in the town of Schwetzingen, is where you’ll find Germany’s version of Versailles, the Schwetzingen Palace and Gardens. Although you can tour the actual palace interiors, strolling the magnificent manicured gardens is the real highlight. There are fantastic fountains and spectacular Romanesque sculptures, as well as a marble bath house and Germany’s earliest mosque-style building. Never intended for worship, it was built during the 18th century, when all things Turkish were the rage in Germany.
