This sprawling 865-acre park, built along the side of a hill, is the city of Kassel’s main attraction. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013, this park has a variety of interesting features, including an enormous statue of Hercules at the park’s peak. In another section of Wilhelmshohe Park, you’ll find the Lion Fortress, a castle built in 1800 to resemble a medieval castle. If your kids are up for a hike, it makes for a fun excursion, hiking through the forest until coming up to the abandoned castle.
