At this stunningly lovely preserve on Kauai’s North Shore, you’ll see — in addition to flora native to Hawaii — plants that were introduced by visiting Polynesians as well as some that arrived during the plantation era. Taking your time on a self-guided tour, with a guidebook included with admission, can be a wonderfully relaxed, and educational, way to spend a couple of hours on the three-quarter-mile loop trail. Kids 12 years old and younger are admitted free.
