Santa Barbara is the lucky home of the largest Moreton Bay fig tree (Ficus macrophylla) in the United States. Native to Australia, this particular tree grew from a seedling given to a local girl by a visiting sailor in 1876. Near the Amtrak station, this now-massive, many-limbed tree draws onlookers who it can’t help but impress. This is the kind of tree that begs to be climbed; unfortunately climbing it is not permitted.
