Looking for a family-friendly hotel for your upcoming visit to Washington DC? Here’s a look at the best Washington DC hotels for kids, based on family reviews and editors’ picks.
1. The River Inn
The River Inn is tucked away on a quiet, tree-lined street in the Foggy Bottom district. Rooms have views of the Potomac River, and the National Mall and Georgetown are just a few short blocks away. The area is residential and you won’t be surrounded by traffic. While that means there’s a lack of restaurants, it’s okay because the hotel’s suites are equipped with full kitchens and dining tables. Your family can spend the day exploring the city, and then return to a home-like environment to rest, relax and save money by preparing meals en suite. Separate living and sleeping areas mean parents can enjoy quiet time together after the kids go to bed.
2. Hotel Madera – A Kimpton Hotel
Hotel Madera – A Kimpton Hotel, located near Dupont Circle, offers family rooms with bunk beds and in-room kids’ perks, including bathrobes, goldfish to “rent,” and giant versions of Connect Four. We also love its onsite restaurant, Firefly, which feels like a magical tree house — complete with a giant tree inside the restaurant! Parents appreciate the free wine hours hosted daily.
3. Hotel George – A Kimpton Hotel
Hotel George – A Kimpton Hotel, near the National Mall, offers the same perks as Hotel Madera, as well as a toy chest in the lobby and gummy bears for kids. We love the color scheme in the hotel’s rooms — which include family-friendly options — and the fact that you can see the Capitol building from here!
4. Embassy Suites Washington, D.C. Georgetown
The Embassy Suites Washington, D.C. Georgetown provides a quiet location and offers all the perks families seek when traveling: spacious two-room suites; complimentary, cooked-to-order breakfast; free evening receptions; and an indoor pool.

6. Four Seasons Hotel Washington D.C.
Found in the heart of Georgetown, surrounded by restaurants and shops, the Four Seaseons Hotel Washington D.C. provides more than 200 rooms, including 59 spacious suites with separate sitting areas, some with a second bedroom attached. The indoor swimming pool.
7. Sofitel Washington D.C.
The Sofitel Washington D.C. is one of the closest properties to the White House. The French-themed hotel provides “The Little Prince”-themed items for kids, including a travel diary to record their adventures in the city. The hotel’s French restaurants also continue the theme, offering a kids’ menu at ICI Urban Bistro.
8. The Jefferson, Washington D.C.
The The Jefferson, Washington D.C. is so entrenched in the city that rooms feature views of the White House and the Washington Monument — some even with balconies or terraces! The hotel’s 99 rooms and suites provide free Wi-Fi and in-room games for kids, while a complimentary house car is available to shuttle guests around in the mornings and evenings. Although the hotel is small, it features three restaurants, so families don’t have to travel beyond the lobby for a meal.
9. Willard InterContinental Washington
One of the best Washington DC hotels for kids, just blocks from the White House, the Willard InterContinental Washington D.C. is one of the city’s landmark properties. In the hotel’s 150-plus-year history, Martin Luther King Jr., Charles Dickens, Walt Whitman, Mark Twain and nearly every president since 1853 have stayed here. Yes, that does mean it’s going to cost you to stay, but what a stay! More than 350 guestrooms and suites with views of the National Mall and its museums and monuments are available, and onsite dining is plentiful.
10. Avenue Suites Georgetown
The Avenue Suites Georgetown is a great Washington DC hotel for kids, not only because it features fully equipped kitchens, but also because it’s surrounded by restaurants in the family-friendly Georgetown district of Washington. Families can also enjoy complimentary breakfast and cookies. Of course, the suites provide extra space with separate living and sleeping areas so families can spread out.
11. Fairfield Inn & Suites Washington D.C./Downtown
For a more budget-friendly option in the city, the Fairfield Inn & Suites is one of our favorite Washington DC hotels for kids, as it features free breakfast and free Wi-Fi. Located near the Convention Center, the hotel is conveniently within steps of a metro station and just a few blocks from the National Mall.
12. The Ritz-Carlton, Washington D.C.
With a name like Ritz-Carlton, you can’t go wrong. The Ritz-Carlton Washington D.C. is near the Smithsonian museums and the National Mall, and features 300 rooms, including 32 suites. The Ritz Kids program welcomes kids with a red wagon filled with toys for them to take home as a souvenir, a kids’ check-in area, a welcome package, a scavenger hunt with prizes, and restaurants featuring Ritz Kids Healthy Taste Menus.
13. The Westin Georgetown, Washington D.C.

Enter through the hotel’s grand corner entrance and enjoy an interior courtyard that provides a tranquil place to rest after a day in the bustling city, and then retire to one of the 263 rooms and suites, including one-bedroom suites with separate living rooms and bedrooms. The hotel is pet-friendly, and kids receive Westin Kids’ amenities, by request.
14. Hilton Garden Inn Washington, D.C. Downtown
The Hilton Garden Inn Washington, D.C. Downtown offers onsite dining for breakfast and dinner, free Wi-Fi and our favorite, a small indoor pool! Guestrooms are surprisingly spacious for a city hotel.
